The Song In My Head When I Woke Up: "Blitzkrieg Bop" by The Ramones
As far as uninvited tunes that intrude into my psyche before I even brush my teeth go, this is a pretty great one! Like most songs by The Ramones, the melody is so enjoyable that you forget it's a punk song. Humming it to yourself, you realize it could have been a 70s pop song instead of a punk anthem. What would it sound like if The Carpenters covered it? Or The Mamas & the Papas? It would work, wouldn't it?
I first got into The Ramones in high school. I think VH1 aired a special on them coinciding with an anniversary and discography collection release, which I ended up buying at Best Buy. I remember being amazed that most of their catalog could fit on two CDs. But I was also bummed that the Spider-Man theme song was missing. That's another song I think about from time to time.
