Witchy Women
During a recent Japanese lesson, my teacher and I discussed people who believe in horoscopes and astrology. My teacher went on to say that she doesn't quite understand how religious people can also believe in luck and fortune, as they seem contradictory. "Yeah, that's how a lot of my family are," I told her. "Once more, the women in my family believe they possess a kind of MAHO."
"MAHO? Do you mean magic?"
"Doesn't MAHO mean magic?"
"MAHO is like Harry Potter witchcraft. Don't you mean MAHO like playing cards magic tricks?"
"No, no. The witchcraft. They believe they can exert their will on someone who did them wrong. Like a forced karma."
"Oh. I see..."
"Yeah, I know... Wait... Wouldn't it have been weirder if the women in my family were gifted with the ability to do card tricks?"
